Privacy Policy
CalorCount AI — Last updated: February 6, 2026
CalorCount AI (“we”, “our”, “the app”) is a calorie tracking application that helps you monitor your daily food intake. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the app collects, how it is used, and your choices.
1. Data We Collect
All personal data is stored locally on your device. We do not operate user accounts, and we do not collect or store personal information on any server.
- Food logs and goals — Your daily calorie logs, macro goals, favourites, and settings are stored on-device only. We never have access to this data.
- Food photos — When you use the photo analysis feature, images of your food are temporarily transmitted to our server for AI processing (see Section 3). Photos are not stored by us after analysis is complete.
- Barcode scans — When you scan a product barcode, the barcode number is sent to the Open Food Facts public database to retrieve product information. No personal data is included in this request.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
The following data is stored locally using on-device storage and never leaves your device unless you use the photo analysis feature:
- Your name (optional, for personalisation)
- Daily calorie and macro goals
- Food diary entries and history
- Favourite food items
- App preferences (dark mode, language)
- Cached product data from barcode scans
You can delete all local data at any time from Settings > Clear All Data.
3. AI-Powered Food Photo Analysis
When you photograph a meal for analysis, the image is:
- Sent from your device to our secure proxy server (hosted on Cloudflare Workers).
- Forwarded to OpenAI’s API (GPT-4o mini) for nutritional estimation.
- The AI response (estimated food name, calories, and macros) is returned to your device.
Important details:
- Images are transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS) connections.
- Our proxy server does not store your images. They are forwarded in real-time and discarded.
- OpenAI processes the image to generate the nutritional estimate. Per OpenAI’s API data usage policy, data submitted via the API is not used to train their models.
- OpenAI may retain API inputs for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring purposes, after which they are deleted. See OpenAI’s usage policies for details.
- No personally identifiable information is attached to the image — only the image data is transmitted.
4. Third-Party Services
5. Analytics and Tracking
CalorCount AI does not include any analytics SDKs, advertising frameworks, or tracking tools. We do not collect usage analytics, crash reports, or device identifiers.
6. Children’s Privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
7. Your Rights
Since all personal data is stored on your device, you have full control:
- Access — All your data is visible within the app.
- Deletion — Use Settings > Clear All Data to remove everything, or uninstall the app.
- Portability — Your data does not leave your device (except photos during analysis as described above).
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “last updated” date at the top will reflect any changes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
